Statement on the Call for evidence for an impact assessment regarding the Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act (IDAA) – speeding up decarbonisation
07 July 2025 | The steel industry in Germany is committed to decarbonisation and to contribute its share to achieving the German and European climate goals. Therefore, we welcome the European Commission’s publications on the Clean Industrial Deal (CID) and Steel and Metals Action Plan (SMAP). Thereby, the upcoming Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act (IDAA) is of upmost importance to avoid the risk of de-industrialisation combined with losses in resilience regarding basic materials. From the view of the steel industry in Germany, it is clear: the IDAA must address enabling conditions for the development of lead markets with European content requirements, faster permitting procedures, and the prioritisation of transformative projects in a coherent and predictable framework.
